One-on-One Plant Medicine Mentorship
The traditional way of passing on specific knowledge began with the practice of apprenticeship where a teacher shares their experience and wisdom directly by working with the student. This is not based on any standardized or prescribed method of teaching but by the emergent exchange that occurs between two people focused creatively on the art of healing with plants.
This means we will begin at the roots. Our bodies know the plants through our DNA and through lifetimes of root digging and hearth sitting.
True apprenticeship is something that happens when we become aware of our place in the lineage of healers and wisdom carriers. It’s when we know, deeply in our body and soul, that we are the vessels for this medicine that flows through from the past and out of us into the future.
True apprenticeship is about you finding out who you are and what kind of plant medicine person you want to become. It is not about you copying or becoming the same type of herbalist as I am. Many of my students have found their path with plants has led them into unexpected places and even into the study of other traditions and other healing art forms.

Words from past students
“The uniqueness of Lisa’s teaching lies in her ability to foster the individual interests and gifts of her students while also encouraging them to build skills in new areas. Her love of teaching stems from a sincere desire to pass herbal traditions into the next generation in her community, and for that reason, there is great humility in her approach. At the same time, her expertise is apparent right away, and her love for the plants and people is also obvious.”
~Lauren Eadline, MSN, RN, FNP-C, Community Herbalist at The Earthstrong Center
“Lisa brings a lifetime of passion, knowledge and experience of herbal medicine to her students. She teaches from balance of hands on learning, discussions, and opportunities for personal exploration. The information I have gained by her instruction has provided me with in-depth and essential resources to guide my herbal study journey.”
~Rachael Davidson, former mentee
“Lisa introduced me to her unique herbal medicine practice in 2008 when I was just beginning my journey with herbalism as a means of taking responsibility of my own well being. I apprenticed under Lisa for about 2 years after our first introduction which opened me up to the many possibilities the world of herbalism, including my current chosen path of protecting and preserving native plants in central New York State. Lisa’s seemingly endless knowledge of bioregional herbalism and on the plants of her bioregion has been a well of inspiration for me over the years from knowing her as a mentor and a friend. Her professional approach to teaching and guiding her students with a keen sense of each student’s individual needs are skills that provide both beginner and advanced students with a conducive and supportive learning environment.”
~Natalie M Parent, Native Plant/Habitat Restorationist at Spring Farm Cares Nature Sanctuary
