Apotropaic means to turn off, stop, or turn away unwanted influences.
Apotropaic from the PIE root apo- meaning “off” or “away” and trep- meaning “to turn”. The Greek apotropaios means to “turn away, avert” or “turn from”. To ward off evil. It’a also simply saying “NO”.
Apotropaic, or protection, magic is much more than defensiveness or fending off unwanted influences, it’s the cultural, ritual, and energetic techniques we use to anchor our fullness of being. It’s a practice of resiliency of body, mind, and spirit as well as attunement with the creative forces of nature.
