Moontime Mandala

Art Print by Lisa Fazio

This mandala was made to visually express how the four phases of the moon correspond to other major aspects of the feminine monthly cycle and mythic life journey. Mandalas can help us to see and understand how differing systems are related to each other and what patterns emerge from these interactions. When we visualize linear graphs of our hormonal, ovaraian and uterine cycle it may be difficult to imagine that these are not isolated processes but synergistic, cooperative and interdependent. These cycles are also harmonized with external patterns as shown here in the cultural paradigm expressed by the Maiden, the Mother, the Maga and the Crone. These are indigenous European based feminine archetypes used to symbolize the possible phases of life although each individual and each culture may represent them in their own way.

These archetypes do not exist exclusively in bodies that have female anatomy only but can be experienced and expressed in all individuals as well as communities.
